Would having a successful online course or program, change your business?

For most or experts and their business, I know that the answer is “100% YES!” Shortly followed by “I don’t know how to do that without paying some guru $1,000’s and having to learn a whole bunch of tech – I haven’t got the time for that!”

Truth be told, too many people rely on these self-styles gurus who teach how to set up and sell “High Ticket Programs” and are buying because they are looking for the shortcuts, push button solutions or magic silver bullets from those who pedal the “perfect” solution to your marketing woes. The typical solution on offer is a course with step by step instructions on how to set up ads, spend a shed-load of cash on them, drive people to webinars and set up consultation calls to sell to prospects. In one sentence I have told you how you can do that. So, is there anything wrong with this?

Selling coaching to people who need it is not about pressure selling. That’s ultimately what these high-ticket closing strategies are for. Doing it the way these people are teaching it will burn your cash, exhaust your audience leave you chasing your tail. You’ll end up speaking with dozens of people and getting few buying from you. It’s hard to succeed this way. Now that the restrictions around the current pandemic mean that we are coaching online rather than in person, everyone seems to be trying to do it. This is just creating more noise online and everyone is trying to sell their “thing” – it’s almost impossible to create a sustainable recurring revenue for your coaching business using their online strategy.

Even if you do have any level of success with your coaching business online, it can be short lived and limited. Scaling up is even harder than starting out. As a solopreneur there is only one of you. You may very well be getting your clients awesome results, but you only have so much time to spend with each client. There is no way you could service 1,000’s of coaching clients with a business model that is relying on you and the time you have in your calendar and schedule.

I don’t know if you have seen them… there seems to be quite a few self-appointed coaching business experts with online training products, teaching experts how to create and market, online training products. Makes me laugh really. “Pay me for my online training to show you how to sell online training.” They are all pretty much the same. They will pay to learn from one person then think “I can do that” - without the blink of an eye, they have cobbled together a bunch of videos, slapped it together and try selling the same thing as a pivot away from coaching towards coaching other experts. They even try and bolt on a “Private members community” in the form of a Facebook group which has zero engagement and just gathers a bunch of people who all suffer from the same fate – buying from a non-expert. I say this as almost all of them have had no success in creating a successful business model for themselves, doing what they are teaching.

The wannabe “guru” can’t be reached directly because the play the “celebrity authority” line, trying to be like the unapproachable superstar, million-dollar business owner, that are super successful. They have your money, you have their online training, now they are on to the next sale. In their eyes, you have all you need and if you want access to them directly, you have to pay though the nose for it! They think this velvet-rope type of approach actually helps to build a more successful persona and they simply treat everyone like a number rather than a customer. In fact, it does the total opposite.

When it comes to the strategies they teach, including all the technology of fully automating the marketing, sales process and delivery, the high-priced “Done for you” packages they offer to set this all up for you are just blueprinted pages and emails that when finished, you find that it just doesn’t work for you and is a total waste of money.

Let’s face it, if you invest in any of these programs, getting the whole online business set up, started and running, let alone successful, can leave you totally drained and exhausted. Everyone around you, friends and family, will get sick of you talking about “what might be” when it’s done, and you end up working like a Trojan – chained to the dining room table, 12 to 15 hours a day, 7 days a week, just trying to make this thing work and make sense of the investment made in the latest guru who sold to you. The guru has convinced you that if you stop working at it, you won’t get anywhere and you think that you have the answer, it just requires you to keep going.

Let’s look at this all. You are ploughing so much time into getting this thing working, the strategies you have learned and seen from the countless webinars you’ve been on must work, but by becoming more and more exhausted, lots of things in your and business are being neglected. You’re posting all the time on social media, for nothing. You might even be blogging, going live every day or networking all over the place, again for nothing. Hustle, hustle, hustle!

This whole “hustle” mindset preached by many is totally wrong – there must be a better way.
