Hey Friend!
They are the questions that always gets asked of us at networking events and seminars when we meet people for the first time, right?
But how honest are you with your answers to those that ask you these things?
I know that when I used to go to all those networking breakfast meetings, I was going because I needed to win business. I played the game of "building relationships" and looking at passing "referrals", but truth be told, networking for me was about picking up clients.
And in answer to that question, I lied through my teeth more than being honest. "Yeah, busy!" and "It's been a great month" were my token replies, when under the hood, business was tough and I didn't want to show any signs of struggle weakness.
At the time, I was struggling to find leads, generate sales and getting along to all the seminars I could, networking, booking into events and hoping that I would meet the right people, was the strategy I took to try and win new business.
All in all, I was spending more money on tickets to seminars, training courses and networking events than I was pulling in.
I meet so many coaches, trainers and mentors who are doing the same thing. No matter what event you turn up to, you might find them there. Even crewing at events where they are making other people money rather than focussing on their own business.
This is not the way to build a business. That's not the way to build their own brand. That's just a way to build someone else's business.
And if you're stuck in this trap, I have some good news for you.
I stopped.
I chose a different path. I made the choice to create business and birth a brand that does not need me to be networking or visiting any other event to win business. I go to them because I want to now, even being asked to speak at them also.
On a regular basis, I hold some one-day meetings in and around the UK and also 3-hour LIVE Masterclass sessions online. I deliver training that has a focus on the steps that I took to move more into the knowledge commerce space and deliver more training to those who wanted my knowledge, rather than always have to chase down new clients to work with.
As a coach, I wanted to coach people. But this was going to limit my business.
Instead, I decided that I needed products that would easily deliver training, mentoring and coaching services combined.
